David Mason is a Teaching Artist at the Luther Strings Academy. He encountered Luther Strings when it first opened in 2018, when he came to visit his now brother-in-law's bowed string shop.

As an experienced educator, David is one of the most versatile Teaching Artists at Luther Strings. If you are wavering between instruments or musical genres, David is your go-to! He can teach all levels of cello, as well as beginners in any instrument we offer lessons for.

Artist Bio

David Mason is an American, west coast-based freelance cellist. Versed in many styles of music, he especially enjoys performing new music and collaborating with living composers.  

As an ensemble performer, David is currently in highest demand as an orchestral musician, and is a member of several well-loved ensembles in the Denver/Colorado area. Currently, he serves as Principal Cellist in both the Denver Philharmonic, as well as the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra.

David has also performed alongside members of numerous professional LA-based quartets, such as the Calder Quartet, the Lyris Quartet, and the Formalist Quartet. In addition, during his LA-based days, he performed alongside classical and/or experimental large ensembles such as the Dog Star Orchestra and the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra.

As a soloist, David has been featured in the soundtrack of documentary film With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story. He has been a regular soloist of the "Lamb of God" Concert Series, hosted by Witness Music, and has also performed with the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra numerous times as a featured artistDavid has international performing experience, in venues including Carnegie HallZipper Hall and Fox Theatre to name a few.

In Hollywood, David has performed alongside artists such as Burt Bacharach and the Corona Pops Orchestra, Michael W. Smith, and Vinnie Ferra. He was selected to record three times with Capitol Records for CalArts' Jazz CD Project (2015 - Abby Lyons, 2016 - Michael Jarvey, 2017 - Molly Pease & Sarah Fylak). Further, as a recording artist, he has recorded with EastWest Studios, The Bridge, Westlake Studios and more.  

As a modern music specialist, David has collaborated with numerous prominent film/experimental/pop composers such as David Newman, Jeff Russo, Gerard Schurmann, Wolfgang von Schweinitz, Michael Skloff, Jae Deal, John Biggs, and more. 

Recruited for his professionalism and attention to detail, David was also hired by singer/songwriter AJ Mitchell and his production team to arrange, perform, and contract for a YouTube voice/string quartet cover of "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur.
