Helen Erickson is a cellist based in Denver, Colorado originally from Conifer, Colorado. Through her deep passion and attention to detail, she has developed a rich style that reflects her devotion to the cello. Fellow musicians and audience members have acclaimed her performances. She has performed around the state of Colorado as a section cellist and chamber musician. She holds a Bachelor of Music: Instrumental Performance with a certificate in Arts Entrepreneurship and a Minor in English from the University of Northern Colorado.

Beginning as a violinist at age nine, Helen quickly developed a love for playing string instruments. She switched to cello two years later after discovering the rich tones of the instrument and has loved it ever since. Throughout her secondary education, she solely played with her school orchestra programs as a section leader and devoted member to the growing music community. In 2021, Helen began her college degree as a self-taught cellist. 

At the University of Northern Colorado, Helen primarily studied with Dr. Sally Murphy, focusing on technique, sound, and repertoire spanning from Baroque to Post-Tonal. An active participant in the UNC Symphony Orchestra, Helen established herself as a leader while collaborating with musicians of various ages and abilities. During her time at UNC, she performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Early Music Ensemble, Spectrum Jazz Studio Orchestra, UNC Opera Theatre Orchestra, and Chamber Music class in a piano trio. In the final year of her undergraduate, she studied with Dr. Romina Monsanto-Colina.

As a professional musician, she is a member of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Elliot Moore. Other performances include Opera Fort Collins, Symphony of the Rockies, Boulder Symphony, Loveland Choral Society, and the Crested Butte Music Festival. She has gained extensive ensemble administration experience and knowledge from her positions as an Operations Intern with the Colorado Music Festival and a Music Administration Intern with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. Helen hopes to continue her work in the music industry, focusing on performance and administrative work to help inspire the communities around her to keep the arts alive and thriving.

Outside of music, Helen enjoys cooking, hiking in the mountains, traveling, and spending time with her cat, Binx.
